Advocates call for priority access to accessible taxis for seniors

Authorities plan to expand the taxi fleet by 800 vehicles in 2026, including an increase of accessible taxis from seven to 28. Advocates are urging taxi companies to reserve a portion of these accessible vehicles for seniors and wheelchair users, citing high demand and frequent fully booked rides. Wong Kuok Ieng of the Transport Advisory Committee suggested dedicated priority booking channels and driver training on wheelchair lifts, while Ho Kuok Meng of the Macau Association for the Promotion of Services for the Disabled highlighted that existing services still fall short for urgent travel needs.
