Airport expands smart security lanes to seven

The Macau International Airport unveiled seven new smart security channels during the weekend at its Central Security Screening Zone in the passenger terminal.

The upgrade aims to reduce passenger waiting times and improve screening efficiency, with the Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) calling the project a “key step for Macau International Airport in smart management and safe operations.”

The project began in July with a phased installation to address increasing passenger numbers and security demands. After staff training and technical tests, two channels were launched in October. Yesterday, the five remaining channels in the second phase entered full operation.

The AACM also announced that an eighth channel, part of the third installation phase, is expected to open following tests in December.

These new smart channels feature advanced equipment such as full-body scanners, automated baggage tray return systems, and human body image analysis technology.

“Throughout the planning phase of the optimization project, we coordinated closely with the airport concessionaire to ensure all procedures were completed in accordance with the processes approved by our Authority,” the bureau said. NS
