Annual food kit, emergency kit and hygiene kit programmes support Macao community and beyond

An atmosphere of compassion and community spirit filled The Venetian Macao’s Cotai Expo on July 8 as 450 volunteers came together for the Sands Cares Global Food Kit Build. Participants included representatives from local non-governmental organizations, Sands China team members from 34 departments, the company’s community volunteers – Sands Cares Ambassadors, and management representatives from Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) and Sands China Ltd.

Organized by Sands China and supported by the Social Welfare Bureau and the Health Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the initiative assembled 5,000 food kits for individuals and families in need. The kits are being distributed across Macau through Caritas Macau, delivering practical support and heartfelt care to vulnerable community members.

Now in its fifth consecutive year, the annual programme reached a new milestone in 2025. The 5,000 kits prepared this year represent the largest effort to date, bringing the cumulative total distributed since the programme’s launch to more than 17,000 food kits. Behind every package is the collective commitment, generosity, and volunteer spirit of hundreds of participants.

Bringing the Community Together

Among those taking part was Patrick Dumont, chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands Corp., and chairman of the board and non-executive director of Sands China Ltd. With Dumont joining volunteers on the assembly line, the initiative underscored the importance of collaboration among businesses, social service organizations, and community partners in supporting Macao’s vulnerable residents.

In addition to staple food items such as rice and cooking oil sourced from Macau SMEs, this year’s food kits included a special addition: healthy and nutritious recipe cards developed jointly by Sands China’s food and beverage team, Caritas Macau, and nutritionists from the Health Bureau. The initiative provides recipient families with practical guidance on healthy meal preparation while promoting balanced nutrition, in support of the Macao SAR Government’s Healthy Macau Blueprint.

More than a collection of essential goods, each food kit represents a shared effort among corporate partners, community organizations, volunteers, and local SMEs. From sourcing and procurement to content design, assembly, and distribution, every stage reflects the value of cross-sector collaboration and community engagement.

The programme is also a reflection of Sands China’s long-standing approach to corporate social responsibility. The company believes that meaningful community investment comes from leveraging its resources, expertise, and partnerships to strengthen social resilience and create sustainable, long-term benefits for Macao.

PROVIDING ATTENTIVE SUPPORT TO MACAO COMMUNITY

Every act of kindness contributes to a stronger community. Patrick Dumont joined the event in person, and thanked volunteers and community partners for their dedication and highlighted the values that define Macau’s unique social fabric: “I am deeply moved by the strength of this community. The remarkable spirit of unity, resilience, and a genuine care for one another are what make Macao truly special. What makes the event meaningful is not only its scale, but the people behind it – team members and community partners come together to provide attentive support to the Macao community. Charity and community work have brought us together as one family, and I hope that events like this inspire youth of the community to continue giving back.”

Emergency Prep: Strengthening Community Resilience

Beyond addressing immediate needs, Sands China is committed to enhancing community resilience and preparedness.

For the eighth consecutive year, the company has partnered with the Macau Red Cross on the Sands Cares Disaster Preparation & Emergency Response Kit Programme. Through packing and distributing emergency kits, holding disaster preparedness workshops, and organising educational activities at local schools, the programme aims to strengthen public awareness and preparedness for emergencies.

This year, Sands Cares Ambassadors assembled and distributed 1,500 emergency kits to local schools, helping students develop disaster preparation awareness from an early age. The kits have been continuously enhanced, with this year’s version including a fire evacuation mask to further improve household safety.

Between June and July, the programme’s Disaster Preparation Workshops were conducted at four local schools. Led by representatives from the Macau Red Cross, the sessions covered topics such as disaster readiness at home, emergency evacuation, and disaster response, extending the project’s educational impact throughout the community.

Since expanding into schools in 2024, the initiative has reached 19 educational institutions across Macau. Sands China plans to continue broadening the programme’s reach, contributing to a safer and more resilient community.

And for the first time, first aid and disaster preparation workshops were extended to Sands China team members, providing practical emergency preparedness training and equipping employees with knowledge to respond effectively in unexpected situations.

Hygiene Kits: Extending Care Beyond Macao

Sands China’s commitment to community development extends beyond Macao to neighbouring regions and the international community.

At the end of last year, the company brought together 330 volunteers, including Sands China team members and representatives from the University of Saint Joseph, sustainability nonprofit Sustaincia, Oxfam in Macau, and the Youth Volunteers Association of Macao, to assemble 30,000 hygiene kits for social enterprise Clean the World at The Venetian Macao.

The event marked Sands China’s 12th consecutive year supporting the initiative. Of the kits assembled, 26,000 were distributed in the Philippines, while 4,000 were provided to 11 social service organizations in Macao and three charitable and educational institutions in Hong Kong. The programme delivers essential hygiene products to families in need while promoting environmental awareness and resource conservation.

As the first integrated resort operator in Macao to partner with Clean the World, Sands China has assembled more than 415,000 hygiene kits since 2014. The initiative sterilizes and repurposes recycled hotel soaps and amenities, reducing waste while providing practical assistance to underserved communities.

By combining environmental sustainability with social impact, the programme exemplifies Sands China’s belief that responsible business practices can create lasting benefits for both people and the planet.

Through initiatives ranging from food assistance and disaster preparedness to hygiene and recycling programmes, Sands China continues to strengthen its partnerships with the community and demonstrate its commitment to building a more caring, resilient, and sustainable Macao.
