Banks see 52% profit surge in first half

Macau’s banking sector posted strong results in the first half of 2025, with total operating income reaching MOP633.82 billion, up 52% from MOP417.07 billion in the same period last year, according to data from the Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM).
While net interest income fell 7.8% to MOP7.31 billion due to lower interest rates, other banking revenues surged. Income from bank services and operations rose 60.1% to MOP6.104 billion, and securities and stock investment income jumped 91% to MOP756 million from MOP396 million
Overall, other banking business income increased 64.5% year-on-year to MOP7.10 billion.
Operating expenses remained largely stable at MOP8.086 billion, slightly higher than last year’s MOP8.08 billion. Analysts attributed the sector’s growth to an improved financial market environment, strong performance of wealth management products, and one-off investment gains.
Meanwhile, positive market sentiment likely contributed to one-off investment gains, boosting overall revenue significantly compared with last year.
