‘Blood moon’ to appear tonight on Lantern Festival

The Lantern Festival marks the end of Chinese New Year celebrations, and the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) predicts a “blood moon” (a total lunar eclipse) that will be visible this evening. The total eclipse phase will occur from 7:03 p.m. to 8:03 p.m., lasting one hour. If weather conditions permit, the public can observe it with the naked eye from locations with a clear eastern horizon and low light pollution, or use an astronomical telescope for a more detailed view of lunar surface changes. The next lunar eclipse visible in Macau will be a penumbral lunar eclipse on February 21, 2027.
