Brazilian jockey Fausto Durso, a former champion in Macau, has died after suffering stab wounds in an altercation outside his parents’ home in Brazil. Durso, 39, rode in Dubai, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Korea before moving to Macau in 2004, where he claimed the jockeys’ title twice in 2007 and 2008. According to the Racing Post, he rode over 1,300 winners in Brazil and Macau, with one of his biggest successes in the 2010 Hong Kong-Macau Trophy (local Group 3).

Health Bureau offers flu vaccine to local seniors

The Health Bureau started offering free anti-H3N2 vaccinations to local seniors today, aiming to prevent possible infections among the elderly population in the approaching summer. According to the department’s press release issued yesterday, service users of any age from local residential care units and rehabilitation centres, as well as seniors aged over 75, will be the first group to receive the limited 10,000 vaccine injections. The bureau will assign medical personnel to the above units to conduct collective vaccination sessions, while eligible seniors have been advised to take the vaccine on their own at their respective health centers. The authorities urged local eligible seniors to take the injection before the beginning of June as the vaccination will only take effect after two to three weeks.

Credit card circulation up 1.9 pct

The number of personal credit cards in circulation reached 846,825 at the end of March, up by 1.9 percent over a quarter earlier, according to data released by the Monetary Authority of Macau. At the end of March, credit card credit limits granted by banks reached MOP18.3 billion, up by 5.4 percent from the end of December. For the first quarter of 2015, credit card turnover decreased 5.7 percent quarter-to-quarter to MOP4.3 billion. Cash advance turnover reached MOP217.3 million, accounting for 5 percent of total credit turnover.
