Briefs | Macau airport sets up Jiangmen service center

The Macau International Airport (MIA) has recently set up its second service center in the Greater Bay Area, according to a press release by the MIA. The launching ceremony of MIA’s Jiangmen service center was held recently at Jiangmen city, Guangdong Province, more than 80 kilometers northwest of Macau. The MIA established its first service center in the city of Zhongshan, Guangdong Province in March. Both of the service centers provide direct bus services to the MIA. For those who want to go to Macau or travel through the MIA, the bus service offers them more options.

Shenzhen sees export growth in first half-year

The export of south China’s technological powerhouse Shenzhen reached 757 billion yuan (USD110 billion) in the first half of 2019, up 5.1 percent year on year, according to local customs. The city’s trade volume with Belt and Road countries reached 284 billion yuan in the first half of the year, up 5.7 percent compared with a year earlier. Private enterprises in the city contributed 775 billion yuan of export and import, accounting for 58 percent of the total in the city. Shenzhen saw robust growth in the import of fruits, medicine, seafood and other products. Its import of meat products and medicine grew by 31.2 percent and 28.7 percent respectively in the first half of 2019.

Greater bay area sees improving air quality

The Greater Bay Area’s air quality improved last year, according to a climate monitoring bulletin released this week and compiled by the Guangdong Meteorological Service, the Hong Kong Observatory and the Macao Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau. The bulletin showed that cities in the Pearl River Delta region had 38.1 hazy days on average in 2018, 1.5 days fewer than the previous year. Hazy days monitored at the Hong Kong Observatory and the Hong Kong International Airport were three and 13 last year, compared with three and 11 days a year earlier. Eighteen hazy days were recorded for Macau, one day fewer than 2017. The Guangdong Meteorological Service said that joint efforts with Hong Kong and Macau counterparts will help the public to scientifically respond to frequently-occurring typhoons, rainstorms and thunderstorms in the area.
