Public libraries are accepting recommendations for which newspapers and magazines should be included in the list of available publications. The suggestion collection started last Friday February 9 and will be available until Sunday March 4. Suggestions can be submitted through a form which can be delivered to any public library, as well as via email. Currently, the public libraries have a collection of more than one million volumes, and also offer approximately 90 current newspapers from different countries and regions and about 800 various magazines, all of which are distributed and available to the public in Macau’s libraries.

Customs officer arrested for deception

An officer from the Macao Customs Service  has been arrested for deception, the Judiciary Police reported yesterday. The suspect had allegedly asked his old classmate to apply for a bank loan so that the suspect could buy a new car. However, he failed to repay the loan. The suspect eventually sold the car without giving any money to the victim. The victim reported the situation to the disciplinary committee in January this year. The suspect, 38, started serving in the public services  in 1998.

Man caught smuggling 25 iPhones to Zhuhai

A man from Hong Kong was caught carrying 25 iPhone devices across the Gongbei border gate to enter Zhuhai, according to a report by Jornal Va Kio. The smuggler had wrapped all of the smartphones around his waist. As the suspect was clearing the border gate, the Gongbei customs’ facial recognition system sounded an alarm. The Gongbei customs later confirmed that it had been the third time in a single day that the suspect crossed over to Zhuhai. The man had behaved calmly, as instructed by the customs officers, but his bulky torso looked suspicious and drew their attention. The smartphones consisted of iPhone models X and 8.
