Briefs | Zhuhai police raid illegal currency exchange stores

Zhuhai police authorities raided and shut down dozens of illegal currency exchange operations at the Gongbei underground shopping mall. Chinese media reports noted that over 100 police officers conducted the raid of the stores located near the escalators of the Gongbei checkpoint, detaining a number of staff and those operating the stores. The suspects were then handcuffed and all currency was seized from the store. The raid came after those arrested reportedly exchanged counterfeit money from stores that are licensed as liquor and dry good stores, yet conduct unlicensed businesses in their back rooms.

Artists to hold talk on photography exhibition

The artist-photographers of the collective exhibition “Visual Thinking” will give a talk this Saturday at 4 p.m. at Creative Macau. “Visual Thinking” is a contemporary photography exhibition, for which the artists created a series of photographic works enhanced with various techniques and manipulations, visually conveying the theme. The artists showcased in the exhibition include Antonio Mil-Homens, Hugo Teixeira, Lampo Leong, Li Li, Noah Ng Fong Chao and Ricardo Meireles. The exhibition kicked off last month.

MOP10 banknotes issued in the 90’s to halt circulation

The withdrawal period for MOP10 banknotes issued in 1991 and 1995 will end on May 26.  Thereafter, that banknote cannot be used as currency in the market. The Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM) reminds citizens in possession of the aforementioned banknotes to have their notes exchanged at Banco Nacional Ultramarino and Bank of China before the May 26 deadline.   The two Issuing Banks have no further obligation to exchange such notes with the public after the end of the final withdrawal period, AMCM noted.
