THE BUZZ: European car market continues rebound in January
Europe’s car market showed more signs of healing as it posted the 17th straight month of sales increases in January.
New car registrations in the European Union were up 6.7 percent over the same month the year before to just under 1 million.
January’s figures continue the recovery seen for all of 2014, when full-year sales rose for the first time in six years. Car sales have suffered from Europe’s troubles over high debt, which led to an economic crisis in countries such as Ireland, Greece, and Portugal and weaker growth elsewhere.
Spain led the rebound with an increase of 27.5 percent while sales in Italy rose 10.9 percent. Britain saw sales rise 6.7 percent.
