The Chief Executive (CE), Sam Hou Fai, will be visiting Portugal and Spain between April 17 and 23, the Government Information Bureau confirmed.
The visit will be Sam Hou Fai’s first as CE to a foreign country and was scheduled since he took office in December 2024.
The visit to Portugal has been on the CE’s agenda at least twice, the first almost one year ago, but was repeatedly postponed due to several matters, including the legislative and presidential elections in Portugal.
The CE will, as usual, lead a delegation that will include several government members and a group of local businessmen organized by the Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute.
This is the first time that a visit by a local CE to Portugal will also include Spain.
Despite the full program not yet being disclosed, the visit will be divided into two parts, with the first two and a half days dedicated to touring Portugal and the last part to Spain before returning to Macau.
Among the regular stops are meetings with the Chinese ambassadors in Portugal and Spain, as well as with top government officials in each country. RM
