CE in Fujian CE urges Fujian enterprises to tap Macau-Hengqin opportunities

Macau and Fujian are seeking to turn long-standing cultural and commercial ties into deeper economic cooperation, with officials on Aug. 5 pointing to industrial coordination, market access and service support.
At a meeting, Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai met representatives from several Fujian enterprises and urged them to seize new development opportunities in Macau and Hengqin.
The CE emphasized that the two sides should build on their respective strengths to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, according to a Government Information Bureau (GCS) statement.
The “Macao-Fujian Regional Synergistic Development Briefing Session,” also held on Wednesday in Fuzhou, was jointly hosted by Macau’s Secretariat for Economy and Finance, Fujian’s Development and Reform Commission and the provincial government’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office.
In a speech at the conference, Secretary for Economy and Finance Dora Ng said the two regions should “leverage their respective unique advantages” and “fully unleash the enormous cooperation potential between Fujian and Macau.”
Ng said new agreements covered trade, tourism, health care, culture, education and youth exchanges, while also strengthening links in overseas services and professional services. She added that Macau can serve as a connector for Fujian companies seeking to expand into Portuguese-speaking and Spanish-speaking markets.
Presentations covered Macau’s investment policies, Fujian’s industrial plans for the 15th Five-Year Plan period and case studies in traditional Chinese medicine, technology and supply chain cooperation. NS
