Chan Kai Chon appointed as IC deputy-director

Chan Kai Chon has been appointed the new deputy-director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, according to a dispatch published in the government official gazette. His term will start on January 12.

Chan was appointed as the replacement to Ieong Chi Kin, whose service as IC vice director ended on January 1.

Chan is the current director of the Macau Museum of Art (MAM), a role which he began in 2017. Chan holds a bachelor’s degree from Jinan University, a master’s degree from Nanjing Normal University, and PhD from the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

The IC issued a statement yesterday clarifying that it was Ieong’s request to end his term. In addition to Ieong, another two senior individuals at the IC have also requested to end their terms: the head of the bureau’s organization, administration, finance management department; and the head of the academic and publication department.
