The CE meets with Wan Gang

The Chief Executive (CE), Mr Chui Sai On, met on Friday with the Vice president of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Minister of Science and Technology, Wan Gang.
The purpose of the meeting, held at Macau government headquarters, was to exchange views on the development of the science sector in Macau. According to a statemtent from the CE’s Office, Mr Chui stressed that the education system should ensure that one of its primary goals is to attract the interest of young people for science, and ensure that they are trained in this field.
Wan Gang said that Macau has achieved great success as well as socio-economic stability. He indicated that he was pleased with a tour he made of the new  University of Macau (UM) campus, which included a visit to two state reference
laboratories. Mr Wan remarked that a continuous investment in science will have positive effects on sustainable development, talent training and development of technology and science locally.
Separately, speaking at the opening ceremony of a seminar on big data and privacy protection last week, Chui Sai On welcomed the growing sense of awareness that local residents are showing with regards to data protection and security. The CE said that the extensive scope of the Office for Personal Data Protection demonstrates the local authorities’ commitment to “monitor and coordinate the implementation of the Personal Data Protection Act,” as well as the office’s more specific responsibilities in data protection.
