Corporate Bits | Lord Stow’s bakery joins efforts with Movember foundation

The Movember Foundation states it is the only charity tackling men’s health on a global scale, all year round.  The foundation is addressing some of the biggest health issues faced by men: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

To help, even in a small way, to spread the word of “Movember” in Macau, members of the Lord Stow’s Bakery Team sprouted moustaches during November.  The company pledged MOP1,000 to the Movember Foundation for each moustache in place by the end of the month.  In addition, they have added 50 percent of gross revenue from its sales of cappuccinos.

The amount of HKD54,523 now makes its way to the Movember Foundation.  “Whilst hoping more moustaches take sprout in Macau during November 2018, the 23-strong-Team now have to start shaving,” according to a press release issued by Lord Stow’s Bakery.

VW’s flagship brand vows turnaround with electric cars

Volkswagen AG’s main car brand pledged to speed up turnaround efforts and accelerate a push into electric cars as cost cuts and an expanding lineup of sport-utility vehicles help boost profit.

The namesake VW brand will initially develop five all-electric models, taking on  Tesla Inc. with its coming I.D. vehicle range, it said yesterday at a press conference at its headquarters in Wolfsburg. The push will be aided by rising profit margins, which are now targeted to reach between 4 percent and 5 percent of sales in 2020, up from a previous estimate of at least 4 percent.

“We will further accelerate the realignment of Volkswagen, continue the worldwide model and electric offensive and work hard on costs,” VW brand chief Herbert Diess said in the statement. “We know which challenges still lie ahead of us.”

Reviving profit at the core VW marque is vital for the world’s largest automaker to stem the fallout from the diesel-emissions scandal and gather the financial firepower to tackle a seismic industry shift toward battery-powered vehicles and new digital services. The brand accounts for more than half of Volkswagen group’s global deliveries and develops key technology for sister nameplates including Audi, Skoda and Seat.
