MGM and Wushu General Association of Macau are co-hosting the sixth annual signature event – “MGM Lion Dance Championship – Macau International Invitational” at the resort’s Grande Praça on Saturday and Sunday.
This year’s “Male Lion Dance Championship” features 15 teams from ten countries and regions including China, Hong Kong and Macau.
The two-day Championship will also see Macau’s first “Female Traditional Lion Dance Championship” with an international standard rating system, which is an upgrade from the pioneering “Female Lion Dance Performance Competition” that has taken place since 2011.
This year’s Championship features eight female lion dance troupes, stated MGM.
The Southern Lion Dance is a sport-oriented activity, performed by a team of two dancers and requiring a varied set of skills and strength so as to perform the moves and achieve various postures that serve to imitate and simulate the different moods and dance-like movements of lions.
