Crime | Man arrested for domestic violence

A 39-year-old local man surnamed Wong was arrested by the Judiciary Police (PJ) for alleged domestic violence, as announced by PJ earlier this week.
The incident marks the first domestic violence case arrest since the city’s domestic laws came into effect this month.
According to the 38-year-old victim, she and Wong, who was a bus driver, have been married for 16 years with four children. For the past ten years, Wong, as a consequence of his gambling addiction, frequently argued verbally with his wife, and at times beating her.
The victim, out of concern for her children, tolerated Wong’s violence until two years ago, when Wong’s violence escalated.
In September, the victim informed Wong she wanted a divorce, which she sought to have formalized.
Wong asked his wife to move out from their home, which she did. On October 21, the victim, while taking a bus to work, was stopped by Wong, who slapped her and took her mobile phone. The victim then reported him to the police.
Last Sunday, the victim was stalked by Wong and again abused by him. Wong was taken into custody by the police on Monday.
