Cross-border media internships offer 20 spots for Macau residents

As part of a GBA talent push and efforts to develop talent for the city’s cultural and creative industries under the “1+4” economic diversification strategy, Macau is sending 20 residents to a 12-week media internship in Jiangsu province.

Applications for the “2026 Macau Youth Jiangsu Performing Arts and Cultural Production Internship Program” will be open from Aug. 20 through Aug. 31, the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) and the Talent Development and Social Security Bureau of the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin announced.

The program, launched jointly by Macau and the Hengqin cooperation zone, places interns at Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation (JSBC), a major state-owned media enterprise in Nanjing. It aims to prepare participants for careers across the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA).

“Through diversified on-the-job practice, the program allows Macau youth to participate in practical work on mainstream media platforms, enhancing their professional skills and broadening their industry horizons, laying a practical foundation for their future careers in related industries,” DSAL said in its announcement.

The 20 positions cover international media research, directing, new media operations, visual design, bilingual new media journalism and broadcasting. Interns will work on daily content production, program planning and international communication at JSBC’s satellite TV and international channels.

Organizers said the placements are designed to help Macau youth gain experience at major mainland outlets, enhance their competitiveness in media and film industries and widen career paths through cross-regional cooperation.

Financial support comes from both Macau and Hengqin. Macau provides a MOP500 subsidy for round-trip transport and travel insurance. Hengqin adds RMB4,000 every four weeks, plus a RMB2,000 accommodation allowance for the same period. JSBC will purchase commercial insurance for all interns, with any remaining costs borne by participants.

The organizing unit will also provide full support and assist with interns’ daily affairs throughout the 12-week period.

Eligible applicants must be Macau residents aged 35 or younger, hold a valid Macau Resident Identity Card and a Mainland Travel Permit for Hong Kong and Macau Residents (Home Return Permit). They also must have the skills required for the position and hold a bachelor’s degree or above, or be in their third year of university or higher.
