A workplace accident at the Macao East Asian Games Dome claimed the life of a 60-year-old worker last Thursday. The man fell approximately four meters from a suspended ceiling during renovation work at the East Asian Games Dome.
According to the Labor Affairs Bureau (DSAL), investigators and medical personnel were swiftly dispatched to the scene. Early findings suggest the worker lost his balance while pulling a wire above the false ceiling inside the gymnasium.
Firefighters reported that the victim suffered severe head injuries and bleeding. The man was taken to Conde S. Januário Hospital, but efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
In response, DSAL issued an immediate stop-work notice to the contractor, halting all activities until occupational safety improvements are made and official approval is granted.
The bureau expressed its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and committed to assisting with injury claims and providing support.
DSAL also reminded contractors of their legal duties under the Construction Industry Occupational Safety and Health Act and stressed the necessity of proper safety training, fall protection, and supervision for work at height. NS
