Education | Gov’t increases education subsidies

The government has increased the value of subsidies granted to schools under the free education scheme and reduced tuition fees for Macau residents by 8 and 6 percent respectively, according to two notices published in the government’s Official Gazette (BO).
The total amount of subsidies granted to schools will be updated accordingly for the upcoming school year and will take effect after September 1.
This update to the subsidies includes grants provided to private primary and secondary schools under the city’s free education program, as well as to students who attend private schools that are not operating under the scheme.
For classrooms comprising of 25 to 35 students, the government will be granting an annual subsidy ranging from MOP880,000 to MOP971,000. For secondary school classrooms, the new annual subsidy will range from MOP1.18 million and MOP1.34 million.
Subsidies provided to students enrolled in private schools which are not under the free education scheme will be granted at annual rates of MOP17,800 (kindergarten); MOP19,800 (primary school); and MOP22,000 (secondary school). MDT/Lusa
