Davey Todd rides to a dominant victory

Davey Todd (Zeeco BMW M1000RR) won the 57th edition of the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix with a commanding performance, finishing more than 10 seconds ahead of second-place Peter Hickman.

Todd dominated the race from start to finish, setting the fastest lap at 2:23.702, just 0.086 seconds off the all-time lap record set by Stuart Easton in 2010.

Todd, who was declared the winner of last year’s Macau GP based on qualifying after the race was canceled due to weather, has now secured his second on-track GP victory over 12 laps.

Todd’s 8Ten Racing teammate, Hickman, finished second with a significant gap – almost 15 seconds ahead of third-place Erno Kostamo.

Kostamo, the 2022 champion, expressed disappointment after the race, having started second on the grid and maintained that position for the first two laps. A mistake while braking into Lisboa Bend forced him off track into the escape road, costing valuable seconds.

Hickman took advantage to move into second, maintaining a steady pace to keep Kostamo behind and secure his podium finish.

After the race, Hickman said he was pleased with the 1-2 finish after a challenging year, particularly following a serious crash at the Isle of Man TT in late May.
“It’s a great end to a difficult year for me,” he said.

“To come here to Macau and perform strongly is a huge bonus, especially after my injuries. It’s even better that the team secured a 1-2 result, and now we can look forward to a strong season in 2026.”

Todd, reflecting on his victory, said he was happy with his performance and believed he could have beaten the lap record if challenged more, as he spent much of the race alone at the front.
“It’s a fantastic feeling to win the Macau Grand Prix over race distance. Everything went perfectly all week. I got a great start and was able to do my own thing from there. I was hoping to take the lap record as well; it’s definitely possible. I felt I had a little more to push, but with such a good lead, I just paced myself. I’m confident I could post a time of two minutes twenty-two.”

Fourth place went to SMT Racing Honda’s Rob Hodson, achieving his best-ever result on the Guia circuit, while Lukas Maurer (Yamaha R1) also set a personal best, finishing fifth.

Among the rookies, Maurizio Bottalico (BMW M1000RR) impressed by finishing sixth overall in his first Macau appearance, spending several laps in fifth place before being overtaken by Maurer in the final stretch.

Another newcomer, Mitchell Rees (Honda CBR1000RR-R), finished eighth overall, just over a minute behind Todd, leaving many seasoned competitors behind, demonstrating strong potential for future races.
