Education | IPM hosts delegation from Coimbra University

The Macao Polytechnic Institute (IPM) and a group of representatives from the University of Coimbra in Portugal recently discussed methods to strengthen ties with Portuguese tertiary institutions and improve academic exchange through student exchange.

Led by António José Mendes, who oversees the University of Coimbra’s foreign exchange programs, the group comprised a sports coach and students of various academic disciplines. 

IPM said in a press release that it held a week- long schedule of academic and cultural exchange intermingled with sports training sessions.

The purpose of the visit was to facilitate mutual communication and deepen bilateral relations to explore greater avenues for cooperation.

IPM vice president Im Sio Kei Marcus remarked that the Institute and the University have worked together on numerous academic projects and that the institutions’ student exchange agreements will cover degree programs.

IPM said it would continue fostering close ties with other Portuguese institutions, refining its teaching methods and encouraging its undergraduates to study abroad.

The discussion was attended by international and exchange students at IPM majoring in computing and Portuguese-Chinese translation, among other disciplines. 

Mendes noted that the University of Coimbra represents one of Portugal’s largest international student communities, with approximately 16 percent of its student body coming from 90 different countries and regions.
