Efforts to expand smoking ban include e-cigarette legislation

The Health Bureau’s (SSM) Tobacco and Alcohol Prevention and Control Office has announced plans to establish no-smoking pilot zones within the next two months, initially focusing on the entrances of four undisclosed schools and daycare centers. Designated smoking areas will also be created during next month’s Macau Food Festival. Through this trial initiative, the authorities aim to encourage organizers of similar events to adopt this model for future no-smoking measures. Additionally, officials revealed that internal consultations regarding a comprehensive ban on e-cigarette possession have been completed. Legislative procedures are now planned to begin next year.
