Fujian and MSAR continue to strengthen ties

The MSAR this week signed three agreements with the government of Fujian Province during the first Fujian-Macau cooperation meeting held in Macau.
The treaties include an agreement on strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Fujian and Macau, and a memorandum of cooperation on medical and health exchanges between the two regions.
The memorandum on strengthening tourism cooperation between the Pingtan General Experimentation Area Tourism Board of Fujian Province and the Macao Government Tourism Office was also signed at the meeting.
Secretary for Economy and Finance Leong Vai Tac, representing MSAR at the meeting, said the gathering marked an opportunity to further optimize the mechanism for Fujian-Macau cooperation.
The meeting was attended by the vice governor of Fujian Province, Liang Jianyong, and Fujian officials responsible for supervising the economy, business, tourism, health, finance, education and culture.
Leong said the Fujian government has the opportunity to make use of Macau’s role as a platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. As such, it could boost Fujian’s economic exchanges, trade and investment with Portuguese-speaking countries.
The secretary added that the local government would intensify the existing Fujian-Macau cooperation model for the MICE industry in particular, enhancing environmentally-friendly practices and policies in the sector.
According to him, two areas in particular would strengthen and diversify efforts to promote tourism and push forward a multi-destination travel model.
As cited in the Government Information Bureau’s statement, Fujian and the MSAR will explore further opportunities in maritime tourism, focusing on cultural activities related to the goddess A-Ma.
Leong concluded that the two regions would strengthen exchanges in cultural affairs, education and youth affairs to expand their cooperation into fields related to each of their livelihoods.
