Int’l trade event kicks off at CCM

The first session of the Pearl River Delta Academy of International Trade and Investment Law (PRAIA) event will be hosted at the Macao Cultural Center (CCM) from today until Friday. The series of seminars aims to provide education and training on areas such as international investment law, international trade, investment treaty interpretation and dispute settlement, and selected current issues of transnational law and policy. It focuses particularly on Asian countries but its coverage is worldwide. It is designed for postgraduate students, early-career academics and researchers, and early-career lawyers working in the government or private sector. PRAIA, supported by the Macao Foundation, is based on cooperation between the Institute of European Studies of Macau, Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School and Peking University School of Transnational Law, where the second and final sessions will take place between July 4 and 8.

Taipa slope listed as highly dangerous

The Land, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) listed T-127 slope at Estr. Lou Lim Ieok as highly dangerous. The department opened bidding yesterday for the contract for renovation and reinforcement projects to be undertaken on the slope site. According to a report by Jornal Cheng Pou, the project is likely to start in the fourth quarter of this year, and to be in operation for a period of around 240 construction days. The slope is estimated to be 12 meters high, 250 meters long, to have an area of 2,600 square meters, and it consists of a man-made part. In recent years, small-scale stone fallings have been reported over the area.

PSP intendant crashes while driving drunk

While driving his own private vehicle, an intendant of the Public Security Police Force (PSP) bumped onto a traffic island in the middle of a crossing at the Estr. Alm. Marques Esparteiro on Saturday. The suspect is aged between 50 and 60. The PSP has stated that the driver had a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit at the time the accident took place. The man’s hands and head were injured, but no other parties were injured in the incident.
