Macau Bats show up well in Hong Kong

The Macau Bats entered five teams for the annual Valley Fort rugby festival held at King’s Park in Hong Kong last Sunday. It provided another opportunity for the local teams to test themselves against Hong Kong clubs.

First up were the U7s who had a bright start to the day with 3 wins and 1 defeat. The U8s found the going slightly tougher but came away with a very creditable 2 wins, 1 loss and a draw.

Meanwhile, the U9s posted a 100% win rate with 4 from 4, playing a combination of strong defence and fast counter-attacking which the other teams had difficulty coping with.

The U10s returned with a very good 2 wins, 1 loss and a draw while the U11s, who were playing in the top tier of their age group, secured impressive wins over Hong Kong Football Club II and Discovery Bay Pirates but succumbed to HKFC I and a very strong Sai Kung Stingrays.

Overall, the club could be proud of the efforts of all the teams who demonstrated once again that Macau is good at “punching above its weight” at these competitions.

The Bats will next compete at the HKFC tournament on the 11/12 April before hosting their own festival on the 25th April in Taipa. Donald Shaw, Hong Kong
