Macau cyber forum targets AI, data and supply-chain risks

Macau will tighten cybersecurity rules for AI and data under its Third Five-Year Plan, officials said at a recent forum that emphasized joint prevention, talent development and greater resilience against cyber threats.

The 2026 China Cybersecurity Week Macau Sub-forum brought together government representatives and experts from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau to discuss cybersecurity, artificial intelligence security, supply-chain risk and personal-data protection.

The event was organized by Macau’s Cybersecurity Incident Alert and Response Center, a joint initiative of the Judiciary Police (PJ), the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau and the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau.

PJ director Sit Chong Meng said emerging technologies such as AI, big data and cloud computing were supporting public services, industrial upgrading and innovation, but were also creating new threats.

Sit said hackers were operating at unprecedented speeds and with greater concealment, while new scams had become more convincing. The risks from data theft and cyberattacks had risen sharply, he added, threatening not only public interests and social order but also national security.

Sit also warned that cybercrime remained frequent and that rapid advances in AI were making criminal methods more “intelligent” and automated.

The PJ director said Macau would strengthen its cybersecurity governance under the territory’s third five-year plan. The work would include improving compliance guidance in emerging areas such as AI and data security, strengthening the cybersecurity talent pipeline and building greater resilience across society.

China’s National Cybersecurity Awareness Week is being held nationwide from Sept. 14 to Sept. 20 under the theme, “Cybersecurity for the People, Cybersecurity Relies on the People – Safeguarding Cyberspace in the Intelligent Era.”
