It took only a few hours to fill all 12,000 entry slots available for the several races included in the 42nd Macau International Marathon.
The response from the public eager to participate in the event was overwhelming with the 1,400 participants slots for the marathon and 4,800 for the half-marathon, made available on Saturday at 9 a.m., filled in less than two hours and 30 minutes.
Yesterday, 5,800 entry slots available for the mini marathon were also sold out in about five hours.
This year’s event will take place on Dec.3, with the start and finish both located inside the Olympic Sport Centre Stadium.
Lok Wai Kin, president of the Macau Marathon Promotion Club, has suggested authorities increase the number of marathon places to 20,000 to accommodate more international runners.
Lok told TDM that many runners in the Greater Bay Area were looking forward to running on new sections of the event such as the Cotai Strip, but are unable to come to Macau to compete due to failed online registration and payment operations.
