A seminar explored ways of polishing Macau’s “golden business card” by leveraging the city’s diverse strengths and advantages.
The event, recently hosted by the Union of Macau Scholars, brought together academics to discuss a range of topics, including policies, education, and the cooperation between Macau and Hengqin.
In his speech, Wu Zhiliang, the president of the Union of Macau Scholars, emphasized the significance of the fusion of Western and Eastern cultures as a key aspect of the city’s promotional strategy.
“Macau, a city where Chinese and Western cultures converge, is ideally positioned to disseminate Chinese culture, values, and concepts to the world and to participate in the construction of a common homeland for humanity,” he said.
Academics also engaged in the study of bilateral relations between Macau and Hengqin, suggesting that for Macau to benefit from the opportunities presented by the Hengqin cooperation zone, the city must first enhance the flow of people into Hengqin.
“The focus of our attention should now be on the question of how to bring more people together in Hengqin and how to better link the industrial chains between Macau and Hengqin,” said Ip Kuai Peng, the vice president of the Union of Macau Scholars.
The discussion also touched on the potential of utilizing Macau as a platform to attract more international firms to invest in Hengqin, with the academics proposing to enhance the promotion of policies, markets and tolerance in the city.
Separately, the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced the launch of the first “Macao International City of Gastronomy Carnival,” which aims to leverage Macau’s status as a UNESCO “Creative City of Gastronomy” and further consolidate its position as a “World Tourism and Leisure Center.”
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said the event would promote the cross-border linkage of “tourism + food” and expand the influence of Macau’s “Creative City of Gastronomy” designation, contributing to the broader efforts to enhance Macau’s “golden business card.” Staff Reporter
