Man accused of sexually harassing student on bus
A man in his 30s has been accused of sexually harassing a female student on a public bus and was later arrested by Public Security Police, authorities said. The case was subsequently referred to the Public Prosecutions Office for further investigation.
Police received a report from the student’s father early Saturday, Aug. 29, after the girl, who attends secondary school, told him she had been harassed while traveling on a bus.
According to police, the suspect was seated beside the student and allegedly moved his body toward her before touching her thigh. The student immediately told him to stop.
After returning home, the girl told her father about the incident, prompting him to report the case to police.
Officers reviewed footage from the city’s surveillance camera network and the bus’s onboard security cameras to identify the suspect. Police later intercepted the man on Avenida da Indústria, in the Areia Preta area.
The suspect reportedly told police that he works as a driver. He also claimed he had been drinking alcohol on the night of the alleged incident and could not recall what happened.
