Man detained for casino chip fraud

A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly posing as a money changer and defrauding a mainland gambler of HKD300,000 in casino chips. He has been charged with large-scale fraud and transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office. According to the Judiciary Police, the victim was approached in Cotai after winning at a casino. The suspect claimed he could exchange chips for renminbi but disappeared after taking the chips. Investigations revealed he exited through a hotel’s emergency passage and gambled at another casino. The suspect was intercepted at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge checkpoint on March 31, with HKD2,500 in suspected criminal proceeds.
