MGM’s Macau 2049 wins Annual Innovative Performance IP Award

MGM’s residency show Macau 2049, presented by renowned filmmaker Zhang Yimou, was honored with the Annual Innovative Performance IP Award at the 2025 Weibo Cultural Night in Zhengzhou.

The award recognizes the show’s innovative approach to preserving and revitalizing traditional Chinese culture while engaging modern audiences.

The event, co-organized by Weibo and government cultural authorities, celebrated the year’s most influential figures and moments in Chinese arts and culture.

Executive Producer Catarina Lio attended the ceremony and accepted the award on behalf of the production.

Since its debut in December 2024, Macau 2049 has integrated eight distinct Chinese art forms, including Peking Opera, Hua’er, and the Song and Dance of the Miao People, using technologies such as air fountains and biomimetic robots.

The show provides a multi-sensory experience that bridges generations, promotes intangible cultural heritage, and strengthens Macau’s role as a cultural hub.
