Mobile payment transactions grew to MOP5.3b in Q3

The number of transactions carried out by local mobile payment tools grew by 12.3% from the previous quarter to 53.9 million in the third quarter of 2021, reaching a total transaction value of MOP5.3 billion, an increase of 20.1%.
According to statistics released by the Monetary Authority of Macao, the average amount per transaction was MOP98.2, and the number of mobile payment terminals and QR code signs rose 0.8% to a total of MOP84,100.
The total number of personal credit cards issued by banks in Macau stood at 1,509,782 at the end of September, increasing 1.3% from the second quarter. Total number of debit cards reached 1,932,344, an increase of 4% from the second quarter.
Credit card limits granted by banks in Macau reached MOP44.8 billion up 1.4% from June to September. Credit card receivables amounted to MOP2.4 billion, of which the rollover amount totaled MOP761 million, representing 31.6% of credit card receivables.
Credit card turnover totaled MOP4.8 billion, a decrease of 3.4%. Cash advance turnover was MOP169.6 million, comprising 3.5% of total credit card turnover. The number of credit card transactions conducted rose 2.3%, reaching 7.1 million. Credit card repayments, in which payments for interests and fees are included, dropped by 2.3% to MOP5.1 billion, compared to the previous quarter. The number of debit card transactions, excluding cash withdrawals, dropped by 23.8% to 417,600, and debit card turnover decreased by 14.4% to a total of MOP943.7 million. Staff reporter
