Visitor arrivals up 19% in April, same day visitors up 30%

Visitor arrivals this April reached 3,092,791, according to an official statistics release from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The figure represents a year-over-year increase of 18.9%.
According to the same release, same-day visitors accounted for the larger share of the increase, totaling 1,755,592, a number that represents a 30.1% year-over-year (y-o-y) increase.
Although also increasing by 6.9% y-o-y, overnight visitors totaled 1,337,199, which is over 418,000 fewer than same-day visitors.
As a result of the exponential increase in same-day visitors, the average length of stay decreased by 0.1 day y-o-y to 1.1 days, while the duration of stay for same-day visitors (0.2 day) and overnight visitors (2.3 days) both remained unchanged.
It is no surprise that visitors from mainland China continue to lead in source markets, increasing by 22.4% y-o-y to 2,126,212 in April. Among these, those traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme (1,064,231) rose by 34.1%.
Mainland visitors traveling under the “one trip per week” measure totaled 149,359, while another 43,278 visited Macau under the “multiple-entry” measure.
As for visitors traveling under the “tourist group multi-entry” measure, they numbered just 18,015.
DSEC also noted that among mainland visitors, those from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area exceeded one million (1,066,367), representing a 34.5% y-o-y increase. This increase was driven mainly by a 63% surge in visitors from Zhuhai.
Also increasing, albeit more moderately, were visitors from the neighboring regions of Hong Kong and Taiwan, with increases of 13.4% and 4.4%, respectively.
International visitors up 10%
International visitors totaled 230,014 in April, representing a 10.4% y-o-y increase.
Among the markets that recorded higher increases were India, with a 50% rise to 12,485; Thailand, experiencing a 24.1% increase to 20,463; and the Philippines, which saw a 20.2% increase to 43,097.
Smaller gains were recorded by the U.S. (4.3%) to 13,429, Japan (4.1%) to 8,646, and Indonesia (0.4%) to 19,656.
On the other hand, some significant drops were noted in key markets, such as Malaysia (-17.6%) to 14,776, Singapore (-8.7%) to 7,888, and South Korea (-0.7%) to 37,215.
13.4% drop in visitors by air
In general, visitor arrivals to Macau increased, particularly among those arriving by land.
The number of land arrivals increased by 26.2% compared to last year, reaching 2,539,548 in April 2025, accounting for 82.1% of the total.
This highlights the reality that most visitors to Macau in April came from Zhuhai and other neighboring cities via land border posts.
This also accounts for an exponential increase in arrivals through the Hengqin port, which saw growth of over 50%.
A significant drop was recorded in the number of visitors arriving by air, specifically from international destinations or Chinese cities farther from Macau.
Only 236,244 visitors were recorded as arriving via Macau International Airport – a 13.4% y-o-y drop – reducing the share of air arrivals to just 7.6%.
Visitor arrivals by sea (316,999) remained roughly at the same level as last year, recording a slight increase of 0.5%.
