The Municipal Affairs Bureau plans to build a new columbarium at the Sa Kong Municipal Cemetery in Taipa with over 10,000 niches across three phases. The first phase is set to begin in the third quarter this year and open in early 2026. As of April, about 1,000 burial niches and 1,100 second-tier ash niches remain available. The bureau said it is also reviewing procedures and exploring eco-friendly burial options, including tree and garden burials.
