New mortgage loans up 7.2% in March

According to statistics released by the Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM), new approvals for residential mortgage loans (RMLs) and commercial real estate loans (CRELs) increased in March 2025. New RMLs rose by 7.2% month-on-month to MOP776.47 million, driven mainly by resident loans. New CRELs rose 27.4% to MOP1.94 billion, with a significant 48.1% increase in resident lending. Despite this, outstanding balances for both RMLs and CRELs declined by 0.5% and 1.0%, respectively. Delinquency ratios rose slightly, with RMLs at 3.6% and CRELs at 5.4%, including loans for construction, development, and investment.
