GBA cities rank highest for talent attraction

Two cities in the GBA have secured spots in the top 10 of a 2024 survey assessing mainland cities’ appeal to professional talent. Shenzhen ranked third and Guangzhou fourth, following Beijing and Shanghai, according to a survey by recruitment platform Zhaopin.com and economist Ren Zeping’s Zeping Macro. The study highlights the eastern coast’s dominance in attracting young professionals, with 60% of job seekers favouring major urban clusters. Shenzhen’s innovative industry and lower settlement barriers make it especially attractive, supported by policies offering living subsidies for young talent. The region’s five Guangdong cities, including Foshan and Dongguan, also rank highly for economic growth in the area.
