The National Meteorological Center of China has forecast that a developing typhoon will enter the northern South China Sea around Saturday (July 25) and will likely affect Macau and Hong Kong, among others, on the southern coast of China. The authorities noted that the tropical disturbance currently over the waters east of the Philippines has begun to form into a typhoon that is likely to arrive closer to the southern China coast on Sunday (July 26). While local meteorological authorities have not yet issued any warnings, Hong Kong’s Observatory has forecast that the low-pressure area is expected to move generally toward the Guangdong coast and gradually intensify. However, the exact landfall location remains uncertain.
