No plans for new airport runway

The Civil Aviation Authority has failed to identify a need to build a second runway at the Macau airport, due to the fact that the current single-runway system has been assessed as being able to increase its passenger carrying capacity to 15 million people. The bureau’s head, Chan Weng Hong, mentioned in a reply to an inquiry posed by a lawmaker that building a new runway would further complicate air traffic control and coordination in the area above the Pearl River Delta region. Chan added that the bureau is negotiating with its mainland counterpart to allow some inbound airplanes to pass by Zhuhai when landing, as currently flights are not allowed to fly low when crossing Zhuhai due to noise restrictions.
