Package tour visitors from Korea, Taiwan record increase

Visitors on package tours totaled 908,000 in November, up by 16.5 percent month-to-month but down slightly by 0.9 percent year-on-year.

Information from the Statistics and Census Service indicated that the number of package tour visitors from mainland China (721,000) dropped by 4.1 percent year-on-year, whereas those from South Korea (59,000) and Taiwan (63,000) surged by 24.3 percent and 40.5 percent respectively.

In the first eleven months of 2018, visitors on package tours totaled 8.19 million up by 6.1 percent year-on-year.

The number of outbound residents using the services of travel agencies grew by 11.8 percent year-on-year to 139,000.

The number of residents travelling on package tours totaled 46,000, with 35,000 (77 percent of total) visiting mainland China. In the first eleven months of 2018, outbound residents using services of travel agencies totaled 1.43 million up by 13.6 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, the number of guest rooms grew by 5.8 percent year-on- year to 39,000, with the number of 5-star hotel rooms rising by 9.7 percent to 25,000.

There were 1.2 million guests checking into hotels and guesthouses, up by 6.1 percent year-on-year. The number of guests coming from mainland China (828,000) and Hong Kong (114,000) increased by 7.9 percent and 1.9 percent respectively.

The number of guests from South Korea (40,000) remained stable, however the number of guests coming from Taiwan (34,000) decreased by 6.5 percent

In the first eleven months of 2018, guests of hotels and guesthouses totaled 12.84 million up by 7.5 percent year-on-
year. The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses rose by 4.1 percentage points to 90.7 percent and the average length of stay of guests remained at 1.5 nights.
