Resident arrested for smuggling marijuana after developing addiction

A 21-year-old local man has been arrested for illegally smuggling marijuana back to Macau after developing an addiction following a trip abroad six months ago.
According to the Judiciary Police (PJ), they launched an investigation and apprehended him, seizing over 40 grams of marijuana from his home.
The man admitted to the police that he bought the marijuana from mainland China but refused to disclose the source of the drugs and attempted to smuggle them back to Macau.
On November 11, he was called to the PJ headquarters to assist in the investigation and claimed that he had developed a drug addiction while traveling.
Since May, he had been buying and smuggling marijuana from mainland China for personal use at home, revealing that his most recent purchase cost over MOP6,000.
During the investigation, police found suspected drugs in the man’s bedside table.
After testing, it was confirmed the substance was marijuana, with a total weight of 44.08 grams and an estimated value of around MOP44,000.
The police also seized an electronic scale, considered drug paraphernalia.
In addition, a urine test showed positive results for drug use.
The PJ will forward this case to the Public Prosecutions Office for charges related to drug trafficking and drug use. Ricaela Diputado
