‘Rotten meat’ firm licensed to supply Macau, HK

The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) released a statement yesterday, confirming that the McDonalds in Macau has imported crispy chicken produced by OSI Shanghai, the company that owns the scandalous Shanghai Husi Food Co Ltd, which was shut down by the mainland authorities amid food safety concerns.
The IACM statement suggested that, according to import data, Macau imported the product a month ago, between May and June.
The last time the crispy chicken was imported was on June 17. All of these imports were supplied to the McDonalds in Macau.
The bureau has already requested that the importer stop supplying the products in question, and has asked retailers to stop using or selling them. The bureau also dispatched officials to inspect the local McDonalds but did not find the product.
Some residents have told TDM that they will temporarily avoid eating crispy chicken, but that they had not lost confidence in Macau’s food safety.
However, others said that they were shocked by the news that there were problematic food products being imported into Macau, and asked the government to perform more random checks.
This food safety incident does not only affect mainland China. Potentially problematic products were also reported as having been exported to Japan and Hong Kong.
McDonalds Hong Kong previously denied that they had used products from OSI Group. However, the branch later backed down from the claim and admitted that they had imported OSI Group products. However, McDonalds Hong Kong stressed that it did not use products from OSI Shanghai. JPL
