To celebrate this Halloween season, the Macau Zombie Walk held its third annual fundraising activity at and around Albergue SCM on Saturday to raise awareness of eye health and funds for Orbis.
In a bid to increase residents’ mindfulness of their eye health, the organizer Rena Plus Ltd has again selected Orbis as the beneficiary organization to support their efforts in promoting eye health and education.
According to the organizers, 14 teams –  some from local banks and large corporations – participated in this year’s event themed “Train to Busan.”
The event involved various activities, including the “Zombie Eye Hunt.” The hunt is a brain-training contest and team-building opportunity for both individual players and corporate participants.
Participants were blindfolded during the hunt and had to complete problem-solving tasks with their team as a horde of zombies.
The event presented several awards such as the Best Zombie Costume & Makeup – Individual Award, Best Zombie Costume & Makeup – Zombie Horde Team Award and The Top Fundraiser.
“Every year we think that it would be very nice every Halloween season for people to gather and [encourage them to] stop using electronic devices,” said Regina Gan, a representative from Rena Plus.
“It’s to raise awareness on not focusing on gadgets. Orbis really wants us to pass the message of taking care of our eyes first before we can [help] cure other people,” she explained to the Times.
Meanwhile, the organizers also hosted the second edition of its Trick or Treat at Albergue SCM.
The activity encourages children to wear Halloween costumes. According to the organizer, some 500 children partook, an increase of 200 participants compared to last year.
Maps were handed out at the site yesterday to families and children in costumes, who explored the spooky neighborhood of St. Lazarus in search of the more than 20 participating shops that handed out candy.
According to the organizers, they provided a total of 10,000 lollipops to the stores.
When asked whether they have a specific amount of funds in mind to raise, the organizers said, “the most important [thing] is to focus on making it a very fun annual event with a very good message. […] Sponsors and the fundraising will come.”  LV
