Suspected arson at luxury condo in Fai Chi Kei

The Judiciary Police (PJ) are investigating a case of suspected arson that occurred on Saturday at the construction site of the luxury condominium Waterfront Duet in the Fai Chi Kei area, TDM Radio reported.  The PJ’s preliminary investigation uncovered suspicious materials on at least two of the building floors. On the 26th floor where the fire broke out was a box of glue used for fittings of piping systems and other highly flammable products. Door frames piled with glue casings were also found on the fifth floor. The fire was restricted to a small area and, according to the authorities, has not caused any major damage to the building nor any injuries to construction workers.   

Macau, Hebei discuss development of Xiong’an New Area

The governments of Macau and Hebei held talks last week regarding collaborative measures to develop the Xiong’an New Area – a designated economic zone in Hebei province – that will in turn contribute to the growth of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region. The regional cooperation will also strengthen the city’s overall competiveness, said the Secretary for Economy and Finance, Lionel Leong.  According to the Government Information Bureau, the two parties discussed cooperation in fields such as investment, tourism and cultural affairs, as well as how to enhance ties between the people of Macau and Hebei. Hebei’s governor Xu Qin noted that the 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing and Hebei, and that he looked forward to strengthening Hebei-Macau ties in relation to tourism, cultural affairs and sports.
