Trade with mainland reaches RMB471b

The total trade value between mainland China and Macau has reached 471.43 billion yuan from January 2000 to November 2024, according to recent customs data.

This growth trajectory is marked by a substantial increase in annual trade volume, which surged from 4.87 billion yuan in 1999 to 27.01 billion yuan in 2023, reflecting an average annual growth rate of 7.4%.

In the first eleven months of 2024 alone, the import and export value amounted to 25.94 billion yuan, showcasing a year-on-year increase of 9.7%, as cited in a China Daily report.

Data from Gongbei Customs in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, indicates that private enterprises recorded an import and export value of 10.75 billion yuan with Macau during this period, marking a significant 25.9% increase compared to the previous year.

According to the customs, Macau’s strategic geographical position has allowed it to expand its advantageous industries into the mainland market effectively.

Notably, products such as cigarettes, pharmaceuticals, copper-clad laminates, and food items have overtaken textiles and garments as the primary exports from Macau to the mainland. In a particularly noteworthy statistic, the mainland imported 135.6 tons of specialty pastries from Macau in the first eleven months of this year, representing a 25.4% increase year-on-year. Popular items among consumers include almond cakes, egg rolls, and pineapple cakes, underscoring the growing demand for Macau’s culinary offering, according to the same report. Staff Reporter
