Several traffic restriction measures will be implemented on Av. da Ponte da Amizade until mid-August. The measures are due to the final stage of linking the overpass (A2), which will connect the peninsula to Zone A of the new landfills.
According to a joint statement from the Public Works Bureau and the Transport Bureau, the traffic measures aim to coordinate with the second phase of the construction project for the A2 overpass at the Rotunda da Amizade area – specifically the lifting and assembly of the deck that will cross Avenida da Ponte da Amizade, the installation of safety barriers and support equipment, as well as the demolition of temporary supports and scaffolding, among others.
These traffic restrictions will be in place from Sunday, May 25, for three months, until August 23.
The restrictions will be enforced daily from 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. in the vicinity of Avenida da Ponte da Amizade.
Traffic measures
Traffic restriction measures will be implemented in phases, with different sections of Avenida da Ponte da Amizade and surrounding roads affected at different times.
From May 25 to June 15, June 29 to July 5, July 30 to August 7, and August 18 to 21, the section of Avenida da Ponte da Amizade heading toward Rotunda da Amizade, in front of Pearl Metropolitan, will be closed to traffic.
During these periods, the road in the opposite direction toward Taipa will temporarily operate as a two-way road. Vehicles will be required to shift lanes into the opposite direction to proceed toward Rotunda da Amizade.
Meanwhile, traffic from Portas do Cerco toward Taipa will be reduced from two lanes to one.
On separate dates: June 23 to 28, July 6 to 10, July 23 to 29, and August 14 to 17, the section of Avenida da Amizade near Rotunda da Amizade, heading toward Taipa, will be closed. Traffic from Portas do Cerco will again be converted into a two-way system, allowing vehicles to switch lanes to head toward Taipa.
In this configuration, traffic from Taipa to Rotunda da Amizade will be reduced from three lanes to one.
Additionally, during these periods, ramp C of the Rotunda da Amizade overpass (heading toward Taipa) will be closed to traffic. To accommodate vehicles, a nearby lane of the Rotunda da Amizade will be temporarily opened, enabling drivers to travel via Avenida do Nordeste and circle around toward Taipa.
Bus services affected
Regarding public bus routes, routes 30, 34, and 51A will be halted from June 23 to 28, July 6 to 10, July 23 to 29, and August 14 to 17. Although all stops will remain unchanged, the authorities noted that travel times are likely to be extended.
