Transportation | Taxi collision nearly tips bus off bridge

A traffic collision on the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge on Friday morning nearly resulted in a bus going over the side and into the sea.
According to a TDM report, a taxi and a bus collided head-on at around 11 a.m. on Friday.
The taxi was driving in the direction of Taipa and had been trying to overtake another car at a high speed when it made contact with the bus heading in the opposite direction, explained the bus driver.
The bus then hit the side fence of the bridge and almost fell into the sea.
“I lost control of the bus after the taxi crashed right into us and of course, the bus then got squashed into the fence and I had to slow it down with my best efforts to stop it from falling into the sea,” said the driver, surnamed Wong, as cited by TDM.
Five people became trapped inside the bus after the crash but suffered no reported injuries. Two passengers in the taxi suffered minor injuries and were sent to the S. Januario public hospital.
The traffic accident caused congestion on the bridge, which is reserved solely for public transportation. Several buses queued up behind the damaged vehicles, and a number of passengers decided to disembark and walk the remainder of the bridge.
