
Two Macau higher education institutions appear in the QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings, with one securing its first-ever placement in two disciplines.
The two institutions announced their results yesterday and Wednesday. Macao Polytechnic University said its Linguistics and Computer Science and Information Systems programmes placed in the 301–350 and 451–500 bands respectively in the global subject rankings.
The Macao University of Tourism reported it ranked 10th worldwide – first in Asia and first in Macau – in the 2026 QS World University Rankings for Hospitality and Leisure Management, achieving a record-high total score for the university.
In separate statements, the two institutions said the rankings reflect their “outstanding performance in teaching and research, steadily rising academic achievements and growing international recognition,” and underscored their “excellence and global influence in tourism education.”
Macao Polytechnic University specifically highlighted its commitment to leveraging interdisciplinary strengths in linguistics and computer science, noting it has developed a worldleading ChinesePortuguese neural machine translation platform and a ChinesePortugueseEnglish speechrecognition simultaneous interpretation system.
The Macao University of Tourism also announced it will launch a Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme and a Bachelor of Science in Management and Data Science programme in the new academic year.
Notably, both the University of Macau and Macau University of Science and Technology placed in the 51–100 band globally. The University of Macau rose to 98th in Linguistics, ranked 151–200 in Sociology, and 201–250 in Psychology.
