Weight loss challenge sees participants shed 12,000 pounds

More than 3,500 residents collectively lost over 12,000 pounds in a 90-day “Active Citywide” challenge, exceeding the original 350-participant cap, the Health Bureau (SSM) said. Local health authorities reported that about 80% of participants who completed final assessments achieved at least 3% weight loss. “The challenge was positioned as an “achievement-oriented” rather than a “competitive” event, aiming to guide participants in managing their weight scientifically and healthily, avoiding unhealthy methods in pursuit of weight loss figures,” SSM said. During the initiative, the SSM provided online tools and workshops, promoting a sports-medicine model. Today, participants will receive prize-collection notices.
