Woman faces jail for insulting police

A local court ruled that a woman – surnamed Kam – who insulted two policemen will either serve a year in jail or pay MOP14,000 in compensation to the officers.
Kam had posted a video in which she verbally abused two policemen, which went viral after it was uploaded to a public Facebook page.
The footage shows officers issuing a parking ticket to the woman’s husband after he was found to have illegally parked outside the Holiday Inn Macau in July 2013.
Kam, who later deleted the post and apologized, criticized the officers in the footage and used offensive language in the caption of the video. Upon realizing the gravity of her actions, she allegedly urged people not to forward or share the post.
Kam has been sentenced to a year in prison by Judge Mario Augusto Silvestre for unlawful video recording and the use of offensive language. According to the Macau Daily, Silvestre said that Kam’s behavior was highly illegal and a serious offense. He added that what Kam said was vulgar and that she ought to bear the consequences of her actions.
